This is one of the other looks we shot while we were in L.A. a few weeks ago. This kimono is now on sale for 50% off! Fun fact about this shoot, we got kicked out of this location. Lol. The guard that walks the premises told us that the owner of that development sent him down to tell us we had to leave and that we’d have to pay for permission to shoot there. He also said, and I quote, “People usually pay millions or billions to shoot here.” Lol. Um, yeah ok. Kristina and I just nodded then politely left. So there’s a little-known blogger secret for ya’ll, sometimes you do in fact need to request permission in advance to shoot in some locations, sometimes you have to pay (though never millions, unless you’re shooting a major motions picture or something), and sometimes its free and you can shoot wherever you like. But this guard was so funny. He was serious about those figures too, lol.
Hey guys, if you recall I shared this cardigan in my Instagram stories last week and said I’d be sharing it as an outfit soon. Well, here it is. I present to you THE BEST cardigan for fall. This is one of the outfits we shot in Pasadena this past week. By the way, can I just say how much I love Pasadena? The weather was a perfect 86 degrees and as the sun went down, we were greeted by a light cool breeze. The city is so picturesque and two of my favorite things are that it’s the home of the Huntington Library and it also offers a wide variety of vegan dining options— one of my faves is Real Food Daily (yelp them!).
Ok, now let me tell ya about this cardi. This chunky knit oversized cardigan is super soft, cozy, and best of all, it’s wool-free! I can not tell you how hard it is to find chunky knit cardigans for fall and winter. It seems like 90% of all cardigans manufactured are made with wool or other animal materials. For as long as I could remember, I’ve been allergic to wool. I had always loved chunky knit oversized cardigans made of wool. They looked so warm and cozy but I wouldn’t even dare try them on because the times I did, my skin would become so irritated. It wasn’t until I worked at James Perse that I found out I wasn’t allergic to cashmere, so I started buying that. Then last year, I went vegan and slowly started eliminated all animal products from my wardrobe, including all my cashmere pieces. So now when I find a really well made, chunky knit cardigan that’s not made of wool or animal materials, I immediately jump on it. This is one of those pieces. The material is a little heavy, but not in a bad way, it has the perfect weight to it. I love the oversized fit and it has pockets! It also has beautiful movement and pairs equally as well with jeans and a tee. If you buy one cardigan this fall, I would suggest investing in this piece! I’m OBSESSED with it!
On the first day the temperature hit below 80, I immediately pulled out my boots and cardigans. We’ve been getting a few cold days here and there but its still mainly in the high 80’s here in Las Vegas. I don’t care though, I’m going to wear my boots, cardigans, and all my other fall pieces now even if it means sitting in my living room blasting the A/C. O
On another note, how nice is this double strap, gray satchel? It’s a Givenchy antigona dupe! It comes with a detachable cross body strap, just like the Givenchy version, except this one is made of vegan leather. Since switching to a vegan diet, I’ve also started switching all my shoes, handbags, and accessories to cruelty-free versions. I especially love finding vegan versions of popular designer handbags. If you know of any, leave your suggestions in the comments below. 🙂
A good trick to starting off your week on the right foot is a great outfit you feel good in. Mondays can be a drag so dress in one of your favorite outfits, have a green smoothie (energizing nutrients, yay!) and start your week right. I once read in an issue of Vogue a quote that really stayed with me, “Dress up to cheer up”. This really works! Clothes can totally transform the way you think and feel. Like when you wear your little black dress, you know, the one that hugs you in all the right places and makes your legs look a mile long. So dress up! I do every chance I get because when you have a 4 month-old baby and you work from home, you’re most likely gonna be wearing yoga pants and a drool-covered t-shirt a large portion of the time. If I’m being honest, my shirt is currently covered in spit up (and my yoga pants too) as I type this, lol.
We’re still in Utah and it’s been pretty chilly the past few days. I was looking forward to the cooler weather so I packed these over the knee boots and this cozy, knit cardigan. You guys, these boots are THE best. If you’re like me and have a really hard time finding over-the-knee boots because you have gigantic calves, then these are the boots for you. They stretch a lot but aren’t loose at the top and the half zipper on the back makes them super easy to put on. These are hands down my favorite boots. I also love the thick heel, they give you a little more support and makes them quite comfortable.
It’s been nearly 7 weeks since my baby was born. At times, it feels like it’s been much longer but conversely, time seems to be flying by. My wardrobe didn’t really change after birth, I’m still living in James Perse dresses. I got these Calvin Klein sandals a few months ago, I had completely forgotten about them. They’re now on sale for under $50! Diaper changing, spit up wiping, and baby’s laundry tend to eclipse the day, leaving little to no time for putting together outfits. I have several other items I’m really excited to shoot (if I ever find the time, lol).
Lightweight, flowy silk, isn’t it fantastic? These Theory wide-leg silk pants had me the instant I spotted them. Lately, I seem to pick flowy silk pieces nearly 90% of the time I’m out shopping. Given the current season, especially being in Las Vegas, I suppose it’s not an odd choice. I absolutely love the geometric print on these pants and the elasticized waist makes you feel like you’re wearing pajamas, but you know, much more chic ones.
Tea length is one of my favorite dress styles. It’s a very feminine cut. However, in this particular dress the femininity is downplayed by the racerback style, loose waist, and slit front pockets making this dress perfect for everyday wear. Tea length dresses are quite flattering for women with wide hips. The slight cinch at the waist, the racer back straps, and the long vertical row of buttons creates an elongated silhouette making you appear taller and thinner. I especially love this style when made of rayon. The fabric is cool —perfect for warm temperatures— has great movement and drapes the body beautifully.
Hello and welcome to the new blog! I’m so excited to be creating this first post for Blasé Chic! One of the most chic wardrobe pieces in my closet are these gorgeous Saint Laurent sandals. Delicate straps juxtaposed with a thick platform and a sky high heel make these shoes one of my favorite pairs. I love wearing them with jeans and equally with shirt dresses for an effortlessly cool look.
In the previous post I wrote a little about changing my name, to my real one, when I relaunched the blog. When I started The F List, I created the name Jen De Marquez as a pen name. The “Jen” part came from my dad wanting to name me Jennifer when I was born. The “De Marquez” portion came from my maternal grandfather’s original surname before he changed it after immigrating to Mexico from Germany. Anyway, I feel the name does’t click with me so I’ll use one that does, my real name- Jeanette Padilla. I can’t wait to create more content that more aptly reflects this new direction I’m taking. I hope you all like it as much as I do.
Two things, number one: I am a terrible blogger. I’m typically so into whatever it is that I’m doing that I forget to take pictures to share on the blog. I realize that I need to be better about that if I’m going to keep this thing going, lol. But it’s also good to just enjoy and live in the moment so don’t forget to put down your phone/camera every now and then. Secondly, the blog is getting a revamp. Actually it’s getting a totally new look complete with a new name! Oh and I’ll be changing my name…to my real name :-O! Yes, I made this one up, well not completely, it could have totally been my name and probably is in some alternate reality. BUT in THIS reality, my name is something else and this current one isn’t working for me. Just not feeling it, ya know? Anyway, more on all of that in the next post.
For today, here is an outfit we shot yesterday. Casual and comfortable. This lightweight extra long cardigan by Coin is an essential piece for summer in my opinion. It really pulls an outfit together and protects the skin from the scorching Las Vegas desert heat. I’m also adoring this Rebecca Minkoff saffiano tote, I’ve used it non stop for the last month. The sturdy handles and oversized style made it perfect for carrying all my travel essentials whilst in Mexico last month. I literally left home with only this purse and a carry on, so easy.
