I LOVE the fourth of July. Watching fireworks on a summer night with friends and family, what’s not to like? I also love playing with the day’s color scheme. If you’re not careful, it can be easy to look like Fourth of July threw up on you. I could have opted for red shoes but I chose to keep the red subtle in this outfit so as not to go overboard. So I added red lipstick, red trimmed sunglasses, and a red scarf. BTW, how cute is this animal print scarf? Love it! I absolutely love this embroidered stars top too, it’s not only perfect for Fourth of July but for all summer! The extra wide, oversized sleeves are dreamy! It also comes with a cami underneath since the top is crocheted. This is definitely an outfit I’ll be wearing many times this summer.

A good trick to starting off your week on the right foot is a great outfit you feel good in. Mondays can be a drag so dress in one of your favorite outfits, have a green smoothie (energizing nutrients, yay!) and start your week right. I once read in an issue of Vogue a quote that really stayed with me, “Dress up to cheer up”. This really works! Clothes can totally transform the way you think and feel. Like when you wear your little black dress, you know, the one that hugs you in all the right places and makes your legs look a mile long. So dress up! I do every chance I get because when you have a 4 month-old baby and you work from home, you’re most likely gonna be wearing yoga pants and a drool-covered t-shirt a large portion of the time. If I’m being honest, my shirt is currently covered in spit up (and my yoga pants too) as I type this, lol.

Diane Von Furstenberg Spring/Summer 2015

When I think of Diane Von Furstenberg, the second thing that immediately comes to mind are exquisite wrap dresses. Thanks to Diane, the wrap dress became extremely popular in the mid 70’s. Over four decades later, and it’s still an all time favorite style of women across the globe. This particular wrap dress with it’s gingham print and green floral pattern is one of my favorite DVF wrap dresses of all time. I absolutely love the contrast between the clashing prints and colors. I feel this color palette is a bit masculine but is beautifully juxtaposed by the ultra feminine wrap style and the singular side ruffle detail. This dress not only moves beautifully, it also has a fluidity to it despite the clash of prints and colors; that is the genius of Diane Von Furstenberg.

Wrap dresses are quite versatile and definitely a wardrobe staple. They can easily be dressed down with sandals for casual outings or dressed up with closed-toe pumps for a more conservative and elegant occasion. Jersey fabric is the most flattering to this dress style. It creates wonderful movement and is flattering on every body type. Patterned wrap dresses are really fun to accessorize. Get this DVF gingham wrap dress on sale (50% off!) while you can, it won’t last!

P.s. DFV dresses run a whole size small in my opinion. I’ve always ordered a size up for the perfect fit. I’m normally a 10 but I’m wearing a 12 in this dress.

We spent this past weekend in Utah visiting family. The weather was fantastic as was the scenery. It’s so green and the mountain views are amazing; there are so many great spots for photo ops. While in Salt Lake City, I got a couple hours to hit up Nordstrom and check out the Nordstrom anniversary sale. Unfortunately, none of the items I purchased that day were on sale but I didn’t mind because I love them all. I’m obsessed with this midi sweater dress. The material is super soft and a great weight, it hugs the body without being clingy. The rectangular cut and arm stripes make it such a casual piece which I always love to pair with sky-high heels. Speaking of obsessions, I can’t get over these Saint Laurent sandals. I’ve been wearing them with everything lately and I don’t plan on stopping, they’re just so chic!

Summertime is the perfect time to play with colors and textures. This woven clutch by Vince Camuto has lots of both. I love clashing patterns, like this clutch and scarf. Mixing patterns can be tricky but if each item has pattern and/or color that picks up on another item then they’ll play well together because it still allows the outfit to flow. You’ll notice there are stripes in the dress, scarf, and clutch.

Hello and welcome to the new blog! I’m so excited to be creating this first post for Blasé Chic!  One of the most chic wardrobe pieces in my closet are these gorgeous Saint Laurent sandals. Delicate straps juxtaposed with a thick platform and a sky high heel make these shoes one of my favorite pairs. I love wearing them with jeans and equally with shirt dresses for an effortlessly cool look.

In the previous post I wrote a little about changing my name, to my real one, when I relaunched the blog. When I started The F List, I created the name Jen De Marquez as a pen name. The “Jen” part came from my dad wanting to name me Jennifer when I was born. The “De Marquez” portion came from my maternal grandfather’s original surname before he changed it after immigrating to Mexico from Germany. Anyway, I feel the name does’t click with me so I’ll use one that does, my real name- Jeanette Padilla. I can’t wait to create more content that more aptly reflects this new direction I’m taking. I hope you all like it as much as I do.
